The ideal ears should frame your face without being overly noticeable. Whether a child in grade school or an adult, prominent or misshapen ears are difficult to hide. For children, they are often a source of teasing. A custom ear surgery can address cosmetic ear conditions and enhance your life experience. By repositioning your ears, your appearance can be subtly but significantly improved.
What is the Procedure? How Do You Reshape My Ears?
Several methods can be used to perform otoplasty. A common technique involves making a small incision to remove excess ear cartilage and pinning a protruding ear back to lie nicely parallel to the head. The incisions are uniquely positioned, so the scars are virtually invisible once healed. We take all the time needed with every procedure to deliver quality results to exceed your expectations.
What Are the Benefits of Ear Surgery?
Otoplasty can help you or a child who is struggling with protruding or misshapen ears. Adjustments to ear structure can improve your ability to comfortably wear glasses comfortably, wear any hairstyle with confidence, and repair damage from trauma. If your earlobes are stretched, ripped, or overly large, they can be recontoured to the ideal shape and size.

At what age can you undergo ear surgery?
There is no right or wrong age. Children as young as four or five can successfully have the surgery as long as their ears are fully developed. Choosing to have this surgery is a personal decision. For most, it is something they have been considering for a long time. The most important factor in otoplasty is ensuring you are under the care of a talented facial plastic surgeon.
Will I need time off work?
Everyone’s healing process is different, but most people can go back to work or school in one week or less. If you regularly exercise, go to the gym, or play sports, you must limit your physical activities for at least 30 days to allow for full healing.
What is the recovery time?
You will need to sleep on your back during recovery to keep the repaired ears free from pressure. In your follow-up appointment, the bandages are removed, the incisions cleansed, and new dressings placed, which will remain for about a week. During that time, you should feel comfortable, but you may experience some aching or throbbing. Typically, over-the-counter pain medicines such as Advil or Tylenol are all you will need. Internal stitches will dissolve naturally, and any external stitches will be removed at a one-week check-up.
Are there any risks or scarring involved?
Our surgeons are board-certified and specialize in ear, nose, and throat procedures. You are well cared for. For fast recovery and beautiful results, follow your aftercare instructions carefully. The incision scars will be almost invisible, hidden behind your ears, and will fade to being undetectable with time. We invite you to meet with our facial plastic surgeon in a private consultation to discuss this customized procedure.
