Chemical peels are formulated as mild, medium, or deep, with your exact treatment being customized to address your unique cosmetic concerns. TCA Peel

A TCA peel is made with trichloroacetic acid and is used to non-invasively improve discoloration, clear away dead skin cells, treat scarring, and minimize wrinkles and lines. A TCA peel will work to regenerate healthy skin by renewing cellular growth. Treatment takes around 30 minutes, and patients can return to their normal activities afterward, provided they protect their skin from the sun.

VI Peel

The VI Peel addresses aesthetic concerns such as acne and acne scarring, melasma, sun damage, wrinkles and lines, and more. It is among the most often performed chemical peels, thanks to the fact that nearly all patients can tolerate the treatment regardless of their skin type. The peel is typically formulated with a combination of salicylic acid, trichloroacetic acid, tretinoin, phenol, and vitamin C. With the VI Peel, patients may need to undergo several sessions in order to see comprehensive changes.

Candidacy

Chemical peels are an excellent option for anyone looking to non-surgically improve their skin texture and rejuvenate their overall complexion. These treatments tend to work best for healthy non-smokers with realistic expectations. Note that the procedure is contraindicated for those who:

  • Are pregnant or nursing
  • Have an active skin infection or disease
  • Have a herpes outbreak
  • Have used Accutane® within the last year
  • Recently underwent chemotherapy or radiation
  • Are allergic to aspirin
  • Suffer from an autoimmune condition

Recovery

The recovery time after a chemical peel will depend on its formulation and whether it was mild, medium, or deep. The skin may feel tight and tingly after treatment, similar to what a sunburn feels like. As the skin slowly exfoliates over the next 3 to 5 days, it’s important that you avoid picking at it, scratching, or rubbing it.
